Spice Temple - Review - CROWN COMPLEX

The Spice Temple by the Crown Casino on Southbank certainly looks a picture.  Impressive photography sits on the walls like pieces of art and with their large scale make an immediate impression.  You do feel you are going somewhere special when you go to the Spice Temple.

The Spice Temple is about style and substance.  While it looks a pretty picture the dishes are also special.  They make an effort to make them just a little different from the standard versions so while familiar (like most Asian food) they are also unique.
I really like the effort to present the food a bit differently at The Spice Temple. Most Chinese food is presented in a utilitarian manner and to make it stand out just  a little bit more is kind of exciting.

As you can see The Spice Temple has a kind of mood lighting.  It's this sense of style that I particularly like.  It perfectly mixes with Melbourne's winter weather although it might seem out of place during the summer time.  Still it's kind of cool and suits its Southbank location well.
Chinese steamed buns (Bao)
Well steamed Chinese buns are not the most exciting food around.  However, I guess that's the price you pay when going out with friends.  Nice but nothing special but I knew that when we ordered.
As you can see below, the tea looks a treasure.  So some it might seem a bit tacky but I like the way the tea looks.
As you can see through the photographs we enjoyed quite a nice selection of dishes.
For the person who wants huge dishes, The Spice Temple will be a let down.  However, for those who treasure their food and want to enjoy it slowly I think the serving sizes are about perfect.

A stylish and attractive menu.
